HPV Northbrook / Kenosha Race: Log 3 - Weekend Over

Image
2nd day, all the events were held at Washington City Velodrome, Kenosha, Wisconsin. It is the oldest operating velodrome in the States; opened on 1927. There's fewer participants today, but still it was an very awesome day. This velodrome is a bit shorter than the one in Northbrook, about 333m. Anyway, after the rider's meeting, the 1km trial started. Again, I rode on of the upright bike. It was fun, since you built up speed right away, and try to hold your high speed for 3 laps. I actually didn't even checked how I did in that event. Probably later; they'll post them online. Mike won the event at 1 minute 10 seconds. Todd's time is 3 minutes shy from that, which was very good since he rode a normal low-rider, compared to Mike's M1. Next is the endurance race, which I didn't participate. It was pretty fun watching it, considering how narrow and how sharp the turn are. There's a crash between Trefor and Shawn, but they were fine. So that's good. And t...

HPV Northbrook / Kenosha Race: Log 2 - Day 1 Over

Its near sunset now. We're still at the velodrome. Just waiting for Calvin to finish preparing dinner. He's gonna makes us some pasta. Anyway, it's been a fun day. The day kicked off with the 200m sprint, then with endurance race. All the bikes are broken into a few classes; Stock, Streamliner, Trike. I get to ride on the upright; clocked a little over 16 seconds on the 200m sprint. For the endurance race, I've finish 50 laps. Which I didnt since its the 50 laps by the leader. But still, it's fun. In the end of the day, Todd came out 1st in the Streamliner Endurance and 3rd in Stock Endurance. He just smoked everyone else. Well, the dinner's ready. Still, an hour to go before I get to eat. Good day everyone. P.s— i'm tireddd.. - Posted using BlogPress

HPV Northbrook / Kenosha Race: Log 1 - First Velodrome

Image
This weekend, I'll be joining team UofT for the Northbrook / Kenosha (Illinois) Human Powered Vehicle Race. It'll be my first time racing here. Or shall I put it, both venues; since Northbrook and Kenosha are a little bit less than 100 miles apart. Interesting part; they both has velodrome which we'll be racing in. After about 8-9 hours of drive (plus couple of gas refills, we arrived at the Northbrook velodrome around 10:30PM. I get to drive Professor Nogami's car; which is nice. We got 4 bikes strapped to the car; 2 road bikes and 2 recumbent bikes. Which added a lot of drag to the car. Prof. said that he get around 20 miles per gallon. I don't know what's the standard/good miles per gallon is, but 20 must be pretty low. Anyway, we're already tucked in 'bed' in this 10-person tent inside this public park. The policeman said that he don't mind that we are camping here. Which is a very good news. So we don't have to worry about 'hiding...
Disregard the last two posts. Its been discontinued; at least here.
Random. Writing to someone in a postcard is random. Run into a housemate in a soccer store 30 minutes drive away from home (he went there after work for his cleat's spare parts) is random. Being declined to pray in a retail-shop-like-mosque with the guy went out and say, "No, no. It's closed" is random. Went to a halal chinese restaurant for dinner is random. Returning the car straight to airport instead of sending people home first, thus having to go back by TTC is random. Everything is random. I don't see there's a reason for a random silence to keep being as is. Something random will break it. It gotta be. P.s- nothing is not an answer. Giving up too.
You know what; it'll be nice to have my (future) house with the front door facing a tennis court. Or maybe at least a 100m walk from home. I realized this long ago, but then I (maybe) started to think about it this (yesterday) morning. I had a an-hour-ish stroke of tennis with friends from Ottawa. And its fun. And I think tennis is a sport which you can make it very fast-paced with a lot of tense in the air; or a simple, just-for-leisure, chat-able-while-playing one. Well, we can do that to lots of sports. Unless its rugby. Oh wait, there's rugby-touch. Well, unless its shooting (as in sports) or hunting, etc. Anyway, my idea stopped there. Again, in short; Tennis>Fun>NearHome. The end. P.s- I'm exhausted..

ASME HPV East 2013: Log 5 - Good Ending

We're now on the way back to Toronto, after the Banquet Ceremony at Ferris. The only event today was the Endurance Race, where bike-utilitiness was tested. Whether the bike can go across a S-turn, hairpin turn, downhill, uphill, stop at stop sign, bumps, etc. The new thing the organizer put in this year was that each team must take in and put out a grocery bag (with groceries inside) to a station for 3 sets. Anyway, UofT team did very well in the event. We were a bit slow during the obstacles, but since we have three wheels, there's no need for any of the other team member to be along the course of the Endurance, helping to get the bike up. Well, we didnt actually allowed to do that, as it was against the rules (which was different last year). We get the 1st Place for the Endurance event, with 4 more laps than Missouri M&T and Rose Hulman. The final prize and other prizes were given during Banquet. We got 3rd in Men's Drag, 3rd in Women's Drag, 1...
