Configure Email Client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail)
So, I was creating this website using Hostgator.com. And then, after creating some emails using my domain, I came to this problem where I cannot figure out how to use them in Email Client, which in this case I use Microsoft Outlook. Good news is I found out how it works. Thanks to the Google Search giving me some useful websites on the tutorials. So, here it goes.
Using Microsoft Office Outlook 2010,
Using Microsoft Office Outlook 2010,
- Open Microsoft Office Outlook 2010.
- Go to File tab, click Add Account.
- Choose the Manually configure server settings or additional server types, as we're now using custom domains. Click Next.
- Choose Internet E-mail. Click Next.
- Insert the fields according to the screenshot below:
- So, from above screenshot, I'm using example.com as the domain. So, for your individual domain name, say 'mediahunter.org', you have to change the fields for Email Address to 'admin.mediahunter.org'. And both Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server to 'mail.mediahunter.org'. And User Name field is 'admin@mediahunter.com'. The Password is whatever password you have set in your domain email configuration. Also, the name can be anything. It is just to describe your email account and make it easier for your to distinguish between multiple emails.
- After you're done with all the fields, click More Settings.
- Choose the Outgoing Server tab. Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box. Click OK at the bottom.
- Now click Next. The system will test the validity of the account, using the details provided before.
- Sometimes the test will fail, and this error will come out:
- What you have to do is go back to the More Settings, then go to Advanced tab. On the Outgoing server (SMTP): field, change the port number from '25' to '26'. This is because some ISP blocks server port 25.
- Click OK. Click Next. The test will run again and now there would be no error.
- Click Finish. Now you're done.
Using Mozilla Thunderbird:
- Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Click Create a new account.
- Insert any name for Your name. Insert your Email address (i.e. admin.example.com), and its respective Password. Now click Continue.
- As soon as you click on it, there will be a Manual confiq button appears. Click on the button.
- Insert all the details as above. Change the 'example.com' with your respective domains. For example 'mediahunter.org' will have the Incoming: field as 'mail.mediahunter.org'. And so on. Choose Port: '143' for Incoming and '25' for Outgoing. Choose None for SSL and choose Normal password for Authentication drop-down menu.
- Click Re-test. If an error says Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account., change the Outgoing port number from '25' to '26'.
- Click Create Account.
- A warning screen might appear. Check the I understand the risks. check box and click Create Account. Done.
- Open Windows Live Mail.
- Click the Add e-mail account at the left side bar.
- Put in all the E-mail address, Password and your desired Display Name. Then, check the Manually configure server settings for e-mail account check box.
- Another dialogue box will be opened. Choose IMAP from the drop down menu. Insert all the details as the screenshot below.
- Change the 'example.com' with your own domain name. For example 'mediahunter.org' would have 'mail.mediahunter.org' in its Incoming server: field.
- Click Next. If there's and error, change the Outgoing Server Information: on the Port field from '25' to '26'.
- You're done.
That is all for now. I hope someone can benefits from this post.
